Direct hire means you work directly for the company that employs you — no agency middleman, no placement fees. Here's everything Filipino job seekers need to know.
If you've been job hunting in the Philippines, you've probably come across the term "direct hire." But what does it actually mean — and why does it matter so much?
Direct Hire Definition
A direct hire position is one where the company you're applying to is also the company that will employ you. They post the job, interview you, and put you on their payroll. There is no staffing agency, manpower agency, or third-party recruiter between you and your employer.
This is in contrast to agency hire (sometimes called contractual or "endo"), where a manpower agency is technically your employer even though you work at another company's premises.
Why Direct Hire Is Better for Workers
No Placement Fees
Legitimate direct hire employers never charge job seekers to apply or get hired. Under Philippine Labor Code, charging placement fees for local employment is illegal. Still, some unscrupulous agencies do it. Direct hire eliminates this risk entirely.
Better Benefits
Direct hire employees receive their full statutory benefits — SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, 13th month pay — directly from the employer. With agency hire, the agency sometimes skims from this or pays the minimum required by law while taking a service margin from the company.
Path to Regularization
Under the Philippine Labor Code, direct hire employees who complete a probationary period (maximum 6 months) are entitled to regularization. This means job security, notice periods before termination, and full labor rights. Agency workers are often kept on rolling short-term contracts specifically to avoid this.
Career Growth
Being a direct employee of a company means you're eligible for internal promotions, performance bonuses, training programs, and career advancement. Agency workers are typically excluded from these opportunities.
